Sensitive Midwifery Symposium
The 2018 Symposium venues are Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and a special two day event in Johannesburg.
The Sensitive Midwifery Symposium is one of the biggest and most prestigious midwifery and perinatal conferences in Africa, initiated in 1996 by the Sister Lilian Centre. The Sister Lilian Centre is a midwifery, pregnancy, birth and parenting education centre started by well-known South African midwife, health educator and parenting advisor, Lilian Paramor, known as Sister Lilian.
The Sensitive Midwifery Symposium offers a unique and innovative blend of expertise updates, advocacy of sensitive care, challenging of harmful practices, exposure to relevant complementary health fields, and encouragement of professional morale. The Symposium aims to make a positive difference to midwifery and maternity and child care, while celebrating the professions involved.
Sensitive Midwifery Symposium delegate profile
The Symposium for all midwives and associated professionals
Midwifery is a broad-based and integral part of nursing in South Africa and many other countries. As such, the Sensitive Midwifery Symposium covers the full spectrum of midwifery, maternity, obstetric, infant and child care services.
Delegates are drawn from both private and state health sectors in South Africa and internationally. Sensitive Midwifery’s global footprint is constantly growing, as the unique programmes attract many delegates from overseas. In particular, the following maternity professionals are welcome to attend: Midwives and labour unit nurse professionals; antenatal education specialists; postnatal unit and NICU nurse professionals; all students and lecturers of midwifery and maternity nursing; well baby clinic sisters; doulas; lactation consultants; medical doctors and obstetricians.
Sensitive Midwifery accreditation
Sensitive Midwifery Academy is currently in the process of becoming accredited as a midwifery training institution. Sensitive Midwifery is a recognised educational brand in South Africa’s midwifery and nursing industry, considered by many to be one of the ‘big influencers’ of midwives and mothers. Sensitive Midwifery has an internal CPD accreditation system, pending the formal points system in South Africa. A Symposium presentation notebook is included for each delegate, and certificates of attendance are granted to delegates who attend the full proceedings.
